dual mag advice

I have some riveted 30 rd gi mags that i duct taped/paracorded together into a dual mag with enough clearance for the ejection port but can't figure out how to do it to leave me enough room for the bolt catch. Any advice? I really like the look of it. Not gonna lie its just badass.

put a spacer in between the mags- some plastic sheets of something

or tie them top to bottom in a 69 orientation (couldn't think of a better explanation)
