I only just received my first H&R M1 Garand last week, and now this announcement shows up that a very limited number of 6-million serial number series SAs are now available for $679. I've got the funds, but I don't, if you know what I mean. So, is this really a golden moment in M1 history? Will I hate myself for passing it up? Or is it just iPhone 5 in the world of M1 generations?

You won't regret it. At the very least, your M1 will hold it's value, you can always turn it into cash again, probably for more than you paid for it. Personally I am going to wait for the IHCs that are rumored to be coming next year.NRA Certified Metallic Cartridge Reloading Instructor, Shotgun Instructor and Range Safety Officer

I am no expert, and someone is welcome to correct me. I think the SA Garand went though more than 200 drawing changes during it's production life. So something in the 6 million range would have all the final improvements, and be the apex of design.
Maybe also, the 6 million rifles are less likely to have been rebuilt. Again, I am just speculating.Comment

re: rebuilt - I can see why you would guess that, but remember that these were later used by other countries and it's a reality that as guns get used and cleaned parts migrate around. Orest has said they're not "correct" or they would have been sold as such and not service grades. They're not even guaranteed to have GI wood.
Anyway, if I were picking up a service grade Garand right now I'd probably get one. The collectibility is worth the small extra price versus the regular service grades, and the build quality should be very high.Comment

I ordered a reparked stripped bare receiver a while back and requested a high serial number. They ended up sending me a 6mil. I sat on it for a couple years and ended up selling it for $800 because I realized I wasn't going to do anything with it.
