    .223 rem case length specs

picked up some .223 rem spent brass today hoping to reload it soon. my problem is that my LEE book says that the case length should be trimmed to 1.760". i have measured quite a few of these and they are under 1.760". they are all around 1.740". is this ok to go ahead and reload with? thanks!

Trim length should be 1.75" with minimum length being 1.74" and max length being 1.76".

it shouldn't be a problem unless you plan on crimping them. Re-size them an measure again, that might even solve your problem.

ok thanks! the package that this brass came in was labeled as military crimped. i asked a clerk in the store but they didn't know what that meant. any idea? i assume that they are ok to load?

Military crimp means the primer pocket is crimped, you might need a swager for those cases

Cases get shorter when fired and longer after re-sizing them.
Don't worry about the length of them until after you size them.
Of they are shorter than the trim length, that's fine.
Trim them if they are longer than the trim length.

The spec is 1.760 +.000 / -.020 , my book calls out the trim length to 1.750 which is what I trim to with no problems.
