I avoid Turners with a passion.

I can easily drive 10 minutes down the road to Turners to pick up general items, cleaning stuff or ammo, but I choose instead to drive to Simi and go to (Plug In Time) Fort Courage for my items, which is a 15-20 minute drive, better prices and much friendlier.

You are also correct that I could lose my license if I don't get the proper documentation. And for that reason, I don't see why I should let a firearm leave my business when the paperwork is not complete, no matter how upset the customer might get.

Buying a gun is a two way street. It is my job to make sure you have everything you need to complete a transaction. It is also your job to provide that documentation for me. If you are unaware of the laws, drive a long way to my gun shop to start your paperwork, and I can't start it because you are not prepared, there is nothing I can do to rectify that situation. Again, I can't do the impossible and if you don't keep up on the laws, show up at my shop, and I can't start DROS, that isn't my fault.

If you give me an expired documentation, you want that to be my fault too if I miss it? Again, it is a two way street, but of course the customer won't see it that way and the customer is always right.

I do have to say that you are right about it working both ways, I was mainly commenting about there being no excuses but there are always reasons why something does or doesn't happen.

I've heard and seen very mixed things about how 'fire proof/resistant' safes.

From what I've gathered, even with a good safe, all you are really buying is a few more minutes for the firemen to put the fire out.

If the house burns to the ground, everything in your safe is probably toast as well. The inside of the safe may not catch fire, but it sure is going to get hot as hell inside. Wood definitely doesn't deal well with high temperatures, and neither does precision metal instruments. All it would take is a little warping of the metal and a firearm and is scrap.

I did read some stuff where a guy had his house burn down and when he opened his fireproof safe the guns were all toast EXCEPT the ones he happened to have in the chemically treated 'gun socks'. Of course this was a artical trying to sell gun socks...

So, if you have a little fire, your guns should be safe in a fire proof safe... if your house is a pile of ash (with nothing standing but the fireplace) it appears that when you open your safe (if you even can) that you will be met with a lot of ruined firearms.

Something else I have been meaning to call my insurance guy about... it's my understanding that most fire insurance policies do NOT cover firearms unless they have been specifically added!! I'm not positive this is true, but it's something I am most definitely going to talk to my agent about!!
If you know how many guns you have... you don't have enough guns.

          With regards to Turners...

I've bought one gun from them, that was in stock, and it all went smoothly.

I ordered a rifle stock from them and I got it okay, but I was really not impressed with the knowledge, attitude or service.

I only find myself there if I feel I don't have a choice.

One of my favorite stores is Martin Rettings in Culver City. Nice people, very well informed, very helpful and a nice selection of new and used weapons.

I've even seen them remain pleasant and helpful with a customer I would have probably taken a swing at!!

I went with the grey/chrome when i ordered it and the guy said that they should get those before the black/brass ones.

So i called Turner's today to bug them about the safe and asked for a status report..he says now they got a big shipment of the black/brass but the gray could be 2-3 weeks out still.

He did say if i wanted i could switch to the black/brass and i could have it now.

Now i'm torn..the color i want in 3 weeks or an equal but different color replacement now?

Get it now. I ordered my safe from another company and I am hoping it will be delivered by the end of March.

I called Turners today and told them i'd take the black/brass safe. With all the horror stories floating around on the net about Turner's i figured there was a good chance i'd wait for a month and they'd tell me.. "UH they stopped making that safe..want us to order a black and brass one"

So its being delivered to my house tomorrow afternoon.

I need to tell ImOverHere to call them and check on the status of his, I have tomorrow morning off so it would be the perfect time to pick it up.
