    Saiga Scope?

What Russian scope will work well with a Saiga IZ 240 5.45?

I have heard the buttstock on the Saiga is longer than the buttstock on the AK74, so the scope for a Saiga needs to sit further behind the receiver than the scope for an AK does. Since most of the Russian scopes are for AKs, I am not sure they will work on the Saiga.

You'll need to add a fairly high cheek pad to get your eye behind the scope on a saiga or ak. AK's are great with iron sights but they just wrent designed with scopes in mind. Sure they have the side scope mount but that was an afterthought.

I tried a russian scope from kalinka and ended up selling it. It actually took two scopes to get one that worked. Kalinka was ok to deal with but they were very sloooow to reply.

My honest opinion is that if you would like an optic on your tacticool rifle then you should be looking at an AR. .

You want a scope or optic --- get an AR
You want tough as nails iron sight rifle --- get an AK.

        It's that simple.

Another option is a Primary arms red dot on a ultimak system. But if a scope floats your boat kalinka optics may have what you want.

Thanks. Yeah, I have looked at Kalinka. It seems they categorize ak and saiga together. In other words, they don't have seperate posp scopes for each. It seems the POSP 4x24 V might be a good choice.

I have heard that you do chin welds when using scopes with AKs.

Yeah. I have thought of red dot. What criteria would you use to choose between a scope or a red dot? (I know this is probably not a simple question.)

I guess a simple criteria might be whether you want magnification or not.
