Best 308 Muzzle Brake?

Hey everyone,

So im looking for a brake that will more effectively tame down the recoil on my AR10, I currently have the Surefire MB762k but it doesn't seem to tame down the recoil much.

Right now I am looking at the SJC Titan and the Bennie Cooley/JP Compensator - anyone have any reccommendations or reviews between the two.

What is your shooting style?

If you haven't learned yet, my first recommendation is learning "recoil management" and how to position the rifle so your body can absorb the recoil properly.

The surefire brake is so effective that you must either be handling the rifle improperly, or you're trying to do very quick and tight strings for competition.

BTW I mean absolutely no disrespect by what I just said, I say it because before I learned recoil management, I used to think 308 was just beastly and thought the solution would be a better brake.

I installed the JP Comp on an AR10 recently and it really works well. Loud as hell, but very effective. Here's a poor picture:

I've got the JP and it seems to work great but I have no comparison with other breaks for .308.

I was actually considering moving to a Vortex Flash Hider because the recoil on my LR-308 is not that bad. But now your thread has me reconsidering. Btw, I've heard nothing but good things about the Surefire break. Your thread is the first one I've read where it is insufficient for recoil management.

Anyone else with input on the difference in recoil between a good break and a flash hider on a 308 AR?

There is no brake better at reducing recoil than a JP recoil eliminator...

If the surefire isn't working well enough, there may be other issues. You might be running over gassed, which will send the bolt carrier rearward with more force than required for reliable operation. You can tune this out with an adjustable gas block, or by running a heavier buffer and/or heavier spring.
