Looking for some ideas to reduce recoil on bolt rifle.

    It's a Ruger M77 in 30-06. With scope the rifle weighs 9lbs.

Currently I have an old slip on recoil reducer which helps. I will continue to work on my hold, grip, etc... The recoil isn't horrible, but my biggest issue is my cheek weld. When the rifle kicks, it pulls on my cheek skin.

So I have two thoughts, and would like you to weigh in on them, and add what you did with your rifle to ease felt recoil.

    1. Are the slip on reducers as affective as the kind you grind to fit and screw in?

    2. Would a cheek piece of leather or neoprene help the cheek weld issues and make shooting a little more pleasant?

Is this a wood stock? I would try the cheek piece. If it isnt a wood stock, I would add 1-2 pounds of shot or BB's in the butt with a little epoxy mixed in to hold it in place.

Yes sorry, it is a wood stock. Any recommendations on cheek pieces? I want one that will look good, but not break my bank (leather is probably out of the question for now)

          #1 proper form/mount on rifle

          #2 ammo being used

          #3 muzzle device

#4 recoil pad or thicker clothing

Weight of rifle also comes into play but not much you can do about that.

Personally I always say in order of importance #1,4,2,3.

I have one of these cheek pads on my bolt, nice and comfy, fully adjustable.

Tactical Operations Stock Pack is made in the USA with rugged materials and quality craftsmanship. The TacOps pad is built for a solid comfortable no-slip cheek weld and has built in storage. The pouch is ideal for small tools, extra parts, CQB knife and/or first aid. Perfect for the bench or in the field. Outside of the pouch you can hold 8 rounds of ammo and a separate slot for a range card.

Shoot 150gr ammo, the heavier stuff has more felt recoil.

Pull the rifle into your shoulder more, it won't move around as much under recoil.

I've got the same rifle in 30.06. Installing a recoil pad helped alot. Something like this..

Muzzle brake. It'll definitely increase the volume though.

Stock pack will help with comfort.

You'll find high-quality gun parts, gunsmithing tools, firearms, ammunition, reloading equipment, optics, and more!

Might help with recoil (Never used one just seen em)

Unless they changed names that looks almost identical to the "eagle" cheek pad...

Not sure how that would help OP on recoil tho.

OP if your also looking at a cheek weld look into the Karatans cheek riser..

Installed one on my 700. Never felt better and is FULLY adjustable. Takes 10 min with a drill or drill machine.
