I haven't been on the sight for a while to keep current on most of whats going on except SB249 so excuse my ignorance but I need some solid input.

I was just on the For Sale section and noticed a AK-47 for sale with a Solar Tactical grip on it. It was the model that doesn't allow you to wrap your thumb around.

I have an Arsenal AK I would like to use this on. Are they recognized as Ok? I don't need to be an example case for the courts. And I would really like to get rid of the proprietary mag release that comes with the Arsenal rifle. I realize I would have to have no other features, but I just want to make sure the grip is known to be ok for this purpose.

Featureless has the same rules as featured. Follow the flow chart and you will be legal.

I would give a more detailed answer, but the flow chart is just so simple that I can't really improve on it.

Yes anything that prevents wrapping your thumb around the grip is good to go. Some people even buy and shape their own Kydex grip wraps.

I just went featureless....check my earlier post for photo. Amazon.com has kydex. Cost me about $3 to make my own grip wrap. Now I want to thread my barrel for an AK style brake or compensator.

Just buy one...Solar Tactical makes them and they work great, if a bit overpriced.

Bake it for like 2 minutes at 300 IIRC, you have about 1 minute to work it. I use a couple pieces of foam and a heat gun to do it for mag holsters and other junk.

I asked the same thing - did the DOJ ever actually approve the grip strap and the answer was no, not specifically. However, the DOJ doesn't seem to like to clarify or confirm most products that are designed to meet some of the nonsensical AW provisions, so that shouldn't be too surprising. Review the Flowcharts & OLL Assembly Guide. I'm not clear if any major LE Agency has an updated memo that covers grip straps, probably be worth a search since it comes up a lot, I'm betting it's been re-answered many times over.
