Can You Modify a 10/20 PMAG to Make It Function As Well As a 10/30 PMAG?

If you're reading this post, you've probably encountered the same problem that I've had with the 10/20 PMAG on my AR15. While 10/30's seem to perform flawlessly, the 10/20 fails to eject when the bullet button is depressed and the mag has to be pulled from the mag well while simultaneously pushing the bullet button. I've seen posts made by others with the same problem. Hard to believe that Magpul hasn't addressed this issue.

Are there any mods to the 10/20 PMAG that will allow it to function like the 10/30? Is this just a problem with my Spike's Tactical lower receiver or is this common to other makes? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've got a couple of 10/20's that were made by Riflegear. No ejection issues at all with a Noveske lower. The 10/30's would be slightly heavier than the 10/20's. Maybe you have a burr in the magwell or the mag locking tab is not clearing the magwell completely (?).

Spikes, Noveske and JD lowers with Addax, Exile and some unknown 10/20 PMags: no issues at all. Maybe your BB needs adjustment? Are the mags free in the magwell?

Do you feel any resistance when you insert the 10/20 mag even before it reaches the mag lock area?
You can sand/file down the areas, usually the back and rear side of the mag. Take your time and try it for fitting every once in a while, till it falls down freely.
Both my 30s and 20s had this problem and thats all I did to allow the mags to fall free with one push of the BB.

I think it depends on the lower. I have 4 10/20's from different sources and even had a 10/30 - all of them will not free fall from the lower (it wasn't the BB mag catch).

I sanded them down and now they all work great!

                      USGI mags - no issues.

This was a Tactical Machine lower. I have not heard of any other TM lower that had the same problem...

Sounds like this might depend on the batch. I had this very issue with some 10/30 Pmags I bought, but my 10/20s all function flawlessly.

I had a problem with the followers of my 10/20's.

My opinion is that some lowers like Pmags and some don't, but all lowers like regular metal mags. (I know there are a few exceptions)

I like a lot of the products Magpul makes but I don't think everything they sell is perfect. I will not buy Pmags anymore.

Thanks guys. I'll take a close look at the mags and the way that they're pinned/blocked and see if I can tell where they're binding.

Haven't had any mag problems. Daniel Defense M4v4 + Riflegear Pmag 1030/1020 and both major 10 rounders that Riflegear sells.
