Interesting. If the FAL is a registered AW (to his grandfather) then it should of been destroyed or sold out of state via a CA AW FFL. AW can't be "grandfathered".. or passed down.. so to speak. If it wasn't a registered AW I suppose if he had a magazine lock on it http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...ad.php?t=78057 and a 10 round or less mag it would be legal. Unfortunetly if it is truly registered to the grandfather as an AW then it would be a problem.
Hopefully someone else can chime in as I'm not to keen on what is listed/ off-listed in regards to FAL's.Last edited by Shane916; 02-01-2008, 1:57 PM.Comment

Some interesting info:
http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/regagunfaqs.php#12 apparently gives him 90 days...
Check out #15 as well.Comment

I am willing to bet that it wasn't registered. I think out of people that own firearms in this state, very few know all the legal stuff. I had a "friend" that went through a similar circumstance and none of his grandpa's stuff was registered. He had legally owned the rifles before the ban, but knew nothing about the ban after it had passed. And so by doing nothing, my friends dead grandpa instantly became a felon in 2000.Comment

so instantly in the year 2000 a felony conviction magically appeared on his criminal record?... or are you trying to say that when the law went into effect on january first him not registering the weapons or moving them out of state or destroying them that he had commited a feloy but had yet to be convicted...

If you really want to get technical that person would indeed be a felon even if not convicted:
(Law) A person who has committed a felony
Someone who has committed (or been legally convicted of) a crime
Key word is committed. By possessing an unregistered and therefore illegal AW, this person has committed the crime in essence making them a felonComment

intresting..... i thought in America you were innocent until proven guilty by a court of law.Comment

If it is a Century build, it probably has the thumbhole stock and no muzzle device . . . ? If so, separate the upper and lower and it is legal. If it has a flash suppressor, remove it.
