    Saiga .223 rate of twist????

I just bought a Saiga 16" in .223 looks like a well made rifle, I know this has been asked before but I can't find it when searching form.

What is the rate of twist? people are saying 1:9 1:10 1:7
Also has any one fired 77SMK through them?
What size groups are you guys getting using hand loads?
Does it have a .223 Chamber or 5.56mm?

    Info would be greatly appreciated.

What does it say on your rifles passport/birth certificate? I think it's 1/7.
my 223 is 137mm. Extreme spread of impacts when firing four bullets at 100-m range(accuracy of fire).

I have a 20.5 in barrel 223 what is the rate of twist? What grain would stabilize better in it?

      According to them, 1:10.

They also mention doing the patch test, which is relatively easy.

Do the patch test and see what you come up with...

Wrap a tight patch around a cleaning rod that is freely rotating in a handle of some sort. Insert patched rod in barrel, mark a spot (tape with a dot, sharpie dot on the rod, observe a scratch on the rod, etc). Push rod through barrel and watch it turn with the rifling until the spot marked rotates to the same position (ie, you saw a mark on the "top" it rotated around as it pushed through and is now on "top" again). The distance down the bore that the patch traveled in one rotation is going to be your twist rate (ie 7" =1 turn in 7" inches/1:7, 9"=1 turn in 9"/1:9, etc.) "

I think you're right since my rifle has a 137mm spread.

I will be getting my saiga any day. My son got his Thursday and we went shooting today, along with his new Keltec. Damn cold on top of that mountain today. When I get mine we will see what kind of results you get from your patch test and compare it to mine. I was also curious about that.

If you look in the Acceptance certificate you got with the rifle it tells the accuracy. My sons says :

"Extreme spread of impacts when firing four bullets at 100-m range (accuracy of fire) is 94mm"

Then it has the Chief Insp. Dpt's Stamp. (probably some old Russian dude, sit there sipping his vodka reminiscing about the good old days)

I can't find anything that talks about the rifling though.

3.384 MOA, if my math serves me...

                              Mine says 119mm.
