    AR-15 front post ?

If i have a flat top AR, no raisers, and have a front post attached, will the front post get in the way of a red dot sight?

That depends on the type of mount for the red dot. I think most of the Aimpoint and like mounts will put you above the site post.

Yes. It does depend on the mount. If you are just using regular rings (30mm or 1") on the flat top, it will not be high enough. You will need a riser. But some of the aimpoints and the such, might already come with a certain mount that will clear the front post. Depends on what type of red dot you want to put on it.

It depends on what kind of red dot sight you are going to use. EOTech usually does not need to be raised (There may be some people who disagree with me on this one), but Aimpoint would definately needs to be raised. I have both, and for Aimpoint I have used factory Aimpoint QD mount with either ARMS #38 raiser w/ integrated BUIS or Aimpoint built-in riser mounted directly on flat top rail. Now I use Larue 30mm QD mount and it has being working pretty well for me.

Within the same vein, I have an Armalite 1" scope mount, but no scope (got the mount during their Christmas sales). When I do get the money together for some good optics, would the front sight on a 20" upper get in the way of the reticule?

If so, is there any riser that I can order that would be cheaper than a folding or detachable front sight?

I have a Armalite 1" scope mount on one of the upper I have as well. Not sure if it's the same mount though. Have any link? I put a 3-9x40 Leupold Vari XII scope on it; even at 3X power you hardly see the front sight tower, at 9X power you can't tell there are front sight tower. I do have one complain about that mount though: Seats too low. Using an riser mount on the other hand have the scope seats slightly higher then I like... time to think about Magpuls PRS stock I guess.

Yup, that's the same one I have. I have to press my cheek bone hard on A2 stock when using that ring w/o riser, and I don't have a big head. IMO that ring/mount combo is a little low. B-Square cheesy mount looks uglier but the hight was just right...
