Whats the difference between the various M&P-15 rifles?

I'm considering getting my first AR rifle - specifically an M&P-15.

Just looking at the S&W website I see that there are four California compliant models that range in price from $739 to $1359. Whats the difference between the less expensive sport model and the others?

Here is a link to the various California modes

As far as Im aware the Sport model simply eliminates the forward assist, dust cover. trigger guard is forged with the lower (as opposed to true spec of being replaceable).

Nice part though is that the lower (aside from trigger guard) is exactly like every other AR lower out there and ANY AR-15 upper will run on it. So you get a hair up your *** about going to a full float handguard/ bull barrel SASS style uppper chambered in 5.56, you can do it. 100% USA made, and its fully warrantied from Smith and Wesson... FOR LIFE.

Speaking of the trigger guard, it is of the oversized variety. Its a size that you would likely be swapping up to anyway so I wouldnt let that be a negative in any way.

*Edit* I forgot to add Im a proud owner.

I have the M&P 15T. Did some work on the trigger ($9 spring kit) - made a noticeable difference.

Shoots great out of the box. Added an Aimpoint and a vertical foregrip. No malfunctions. VERY accurate.

      IMO its a great value.

        i own the sport variety

ran maybe 400 rounds through it so far, which isn't a lot, but its been reliable thus far.

went featureless with it recently and am having a blast with dropping mags
