How's it going everyone, I'm fairly new to the AR-15 family so please bare with me. I've recently purchased a Stag Arms 2HT complete upper and Rifle Gear Aggressor lower and have encounter a problem the first time out at the range with it.
I'm currently running 2 Magpul 10/20 magazines with American Eagle .223 along with Field Time .223 reloads.
Now, the first problem was after shooting approximately 50 rounds for the first time (which shot flawlessly), the first bullet in the next magazine would get "stuck" as it tries to chamber a round. I can see the bullet and appears to be stuck where the feed ramp is, however after re-cocking the charging handle and letting it go, the bullet that was "stuck" will chamber correctly and the rest of the magazine would function properly. This seems to happen every first bullet of every fresh magazine.
After the frustrating day, I went home and broke my firearm down and did the standard cleaning and maintenance.
Today I was back at the range, the first magazine worked flawlessly and no signs of a malfunction, however the following magazine encounter the same problem that has occurred, the first bullet again was stuck on the feed ramp not wanting to chamber correctly until I once again re-cock the charging handle and the bullet would chamber correctly, the rest of the magazine shot fine without a problem, of course until a new fresh magazine was loaded.
Now I'd like to give a shout out for the newly open Field Time Target and Training staff in helping me out. When the range master inspected my firearm when I've encountered the problem said the fire arm was "over oiled". I honestly didn't, a thin layer of oil is all I did and I've never drenched any of my fire arms ever, but again I've heard mixed reviews on this and sure it can be debatable since I've read elsewhere that fixing this issue was to run the bolt "wet", which I'll try to avoid for now unless someone gives me an insight on why to do so.
I've read up on a scenario where the magazine catch isn't holding the magazine "tight" enough, causing an unbalance in height etc causing the bullet to go off course to hit the feed ramp. Now my question is, by tightening my bullet button, will it increase tension of the magazine release catch? I do not have the proper tools to do so, yet, but if this may be a possible fix then I will head down and pick up a bullet button tool. Again i'm fairly new to AR-15's, I've seen where a AR-15 without bullet buttons can simply spin the magazine catch (on opposite side of magazine release) would tighten the tension of the magazine catch.
Again any help would be greatly appreciated, all comments and advice welcome! Please just stay on topic, would like to have this issue resolved asap before going direct to the manufacture.
