Building AR-15 Style Rifle In .22 LR

Hi, I'm getting parts to build a AR-16 style rifle as a dedicated .22 LR.So far i have a lower and an upper and that about it.I'm planning of getting a CMMG bolt and SS collar with a 25 inch stainless steel barrel configured to a running boar style muzzle weight.I'm also getting a MAGPUL PRS stock. I'd like to have the regular mag release button but I'd be happy with the bullet button also.would like to know if anyone has any ideas or suggestions. Thanks

What are your plans with the 25" SS barrel?

Magazine lock not needed for .22 lr You may get better answers in the rimfire section btw.

I'm using tis length as a kind of reference. But mostly for targets at in indoor range.I plan of having some lathe work done. I may have it shorten to around 20 inches but I'm still in the planning stage right now

Well.I was talking with a gunsmith and he was saying that the lower was considered a 'multi caliber gun' which according to him would need the bullet button release.Would it be possible he's wrong on that ?

He's very wrong on that. You could mark it 30mm and it wouldn't make it a DD. A lower by itself is not a semi auto centerfire rifle. A lower that is marked 110mm howitzer with a .22lr upper on top is a rimfire rifle.

Find a new gunsmith who actually knows what he's talking about.

Your gunsmith is a maroon, and why the heck do you want a 25" barrel?

If it was me, I'd get a Compass Lake dedicated 22LR service rifle style upper. The only way to get good accuracy is with a pure 22LR match barrel, the chamber adapters wreck the accuracy. A normal HBAR barrel contour will be more than enough barrel weight without adding a "running boar" contour. They also make a space gun upper so he can contour it anyway you want but unless your barrel weight is removable, you can't get the gas block on (not that you need one, except as a sight base).

P.S. Running Boar was changed quite a few years back and was renamed Running Target, the boar target was replaced with an aiming dot target (I was the California State Master-Unclassified winner in 89). It was dropped at the last Olympics and has faded away...FYI
