Charging handle HELP!

hi gents,

i just finished my AR "Build" and had a quick question. (I have not fired it yet, so please bear with me if this is a simple question.)

when using the charging handle, i pull it back and it works the BCG...

HOWEVER, (with an empty mag in) when i release the CH... the BCG is lock back because of the bolt catch. .. but the CH just stays out and limp :P and doesnt "snap" back into place...

is this normal because of the empty mag? is it anything i should be worried about?? am i missing something??

The only thing forcing the charging handle forward is the bolt group, the only thing forcing the bolt group forward is the action spring. The magazine follower activates the bolt hold open, the bolt hold open locks the bolt in place. The charging handle is "free floating".

i have only had experience with my brothers AR and have never disassembled it... or, i guess "Charged" it with an empty mag in place.

You should be good unless you hear a sproing sound in the buttstock when you first shoot it. If you hear a sproing sound stop shooting it right away!!!!!

you're good to go, just ride the charging handle back into place or release the bolt.
