BCG's are pretty well the same across the board...IMHO. Basically if you want to buy into, "it has to be mil-spec or it's crap" philosophy well that's on you. As someone who's carried a M-4 for too long, and shoots 3-Gun competitively (Top 25's and we torch through rifles way more than the military will) it doesn't matter. What matters is what works for YOU and what runs.

I've had great luck with DPMS parts, and there's nothing wrong with LMT. Basically in the end, don't crap where you sleep, so support those that support this forum (i.e. Ranier, et. al.). Advertising isn't TOO expensive, but for those that are willing to spend a little money, it's on us to support them in kind.

So are you trying to say that for the same price or more, you would choose a non-staked, non tested BCG over one that is?

Unfortunately, I've already placed the order with RRA. I did ask about the carrier key being properly staked and assured that it was indeed properly staked. When it shows up, if it's not properly staked, I'll send it back.

I apologize for not ordering the part from one of the site sponsors. I did however order a Calguns lower from Ten Percent. Does that qualify for some sort of redemption ? I promise to do better next time!

Thanks for the info. With all the knowledge I'm gaining regarding the AR, I'll just have to build another one after this(using all site sponsor parts!!!).
If it ain't broke, keep fixin' it 'til it is...

            Pryde,

I'm saying that I use quality parts from quality companies. I don't care about whatever mil-spec, secret squirrel, radition testing crap it's gone through. Does it work? Does it hold up to the beating that I put them through? If the answers are yes, then I run it.

The twist is that specifically to the Bolt Carrier, I'll be releasing a new design for testing to some folks about May and for sale to the public by SHOT 2009. Would have done it this year, but Uncle Sam got in the way. Oh well.

Fact is that every company makes good and bad parts. From Oly, I agree they don't do much right, but their barrels (at least their Ultramatch) are AWESOME! .25 MOA groups on my 18" AR and my handloads.

Nothing wrong with RRA but again for the record, I get most of my parts from DPMS. They support the shooting sports and therefore get my support.

Whew! That brings me some relief. I'm using a 20" SUM and hope to at least be able to hit the paper at a couple of hundred yards or so w/factory loads...

I'm going to try and redeem myself by canceling the RRA order(if the BCG hasn't shipped already) and order a LMT BCG from AR15Barrels. The guilt has been dogging me since I read the thread replies earlier this morning.

Yeah! Akjunkie found real pictures of BCG that had the proper staking! That's correct - gotta get the good stuff if you want your rifle to function properly! We have found problems with the second and 3rd tier companies produce so called BCG only to have them taken apart due to them falling apart.

Thats why we only carry the LMT semi and full auto BCG!

i ended up staking my own bolt carriers: Bushmaster, DPMS and RRA.

i was gonna spend $75 for the Moack tool but decided to use a hammer, punch, vise and Loctite.

the Bushmaster BCG was actually loose and causing short stroking problems.
the DPMS and RRA were still tight but not properly Staked.

Why dick with stock carriers. Call JP and order a lightened carrier your follow up shots will thank you.
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

When I hit the lotto I'm only shooting factory.

Randall - I'm sure we can work out a deal as I'm sure you have an extra barrel laying around. I've got a few folks in mind for testing.
