Kel-TEC .308?

Just a hypothetical question to those interested. Do you think Kel-Tec will or could put out an SU-16 type rifle in a .308 caliber bullet. Would it have to be made out of different material to withstand the pressure of a .308 bullet. Feedback anyone?

No and yes. They would have to re-engineer it for .308. then set up time etc.; since they are a fairly small company, don't think that will happen for a long time if ever.

Thanks guys! I knew it was kind of a long shot but ya never know. I'm sure I'm not the only one who's thought about it. I sure I would pick a Socom or something while we still have the opportunity to get one. Thanks.

Many people have contacted Keltec about a 308 SU including me. Keltec is a small company as far as firearms go. They had always been a low level contender in the firearms market making low priced pistols and carbines. Their SU was their cash cow and kind of what put them on the map. There was such a high demand for the SU-16CA/C that they had a hard time just filling the orders. They would love to build a 308 model they just don't have the time or equipment to fill their current orders. Seems they have a limited number of machines that do the moldings. They run a large batch of one firearm then move on to another and on and on it goes. Our only hope is if they invest into more man power and equipment to keep up with their current orders and produce another rifle. I think they will as they have been receiving calls and e-mails about a 308 model for about a year. Who wouldn't want a 308 semi that takes FAL or M-14 mags in the $500 price range? The question is when. I wouldn't hold your breath though.

I thought the bullet diameter for 30 caliber was 308. At least in Craig Boddington's book American Hunting rifles it is listed as such.

That may be correct. BUT, I was pointing out that 308 Win is not a bullet, it is a type of round. 30 cal bullets (.308" in diameter) are used for 300 win mag, .30-06, 7.62x39, 7.62x54, 300 wsm, 300 RUM, etc. they are "30 cal bullets". (of course, different weights aren't appropriate in all those calibers). When you buy bullets for 308 Win or other 30 caliber rifles, you buy "30 caliber" bullets in the weight and bullet profile you are looking for (they are not listed as .308" bullets.

Yes 30 cal comes in many forms.308 is one of them.Its gos by the powder charge.The 308 is a 30 cal catridge.my 243 is a 308 cartridge necked down too 243.same with 7 mm 08..
