    14.5" upper

is it legal to order a 14.5" upper and have my own 1.5" FH pinned to it? It seems all the uppers I'm looking at only have the option of the A2 FH and I really would like the battlecomp 1.5 FH

    Check BCM

They offer the battle comp pinned from the factory.

BCM® 14.5" upper receiver group. This AR15 upper comes with a 14.5in hammer forged barrel (FSB) and your choice of a pinned and welded muzzle device.

may want to try out the battlecomp first if you havent yet. I was very unimpressed, if you do so also, you'll be stuck with it

Legal to own, but if you only have a rifle lower sitting around at home, that can be considered constructive possession. If you do it, bring it directly to a shop to have it pinned and welded.

Personally, its 1.5 inch difference, I'd just get a 16" upper and not worry about it.

Find a mfr that carries the barrel & muzzle device you want or take your barrel & muzzle device to a 'smith to get pinned/welded ASAP (like the day you get it)

I was going to go with the 14.5" barrel but decided to skip the hassle and went with a 16". I prefer to be able to remove my flash suppressor.

Own both sizes. For me the only factor to buy either is the muzzle brake. On my 16.1" I have BC 2.0 (just about 1") but I love running the Surefire Comps but in a 16.1" will almost take the total barrel length to 18". That is why those I installed on 14.5".

You can order a 16" try the bc, if you like it, have it cut down and have the bc pinned and welded. I believe adco can do that for you or whomever you find.

I have both. And depending on what muzzle device you use there can be a substantial difference in length.

You can see the pics below of my 16" and 14 1/2" laying on top of each other and everything pretty much equal. There is 2 1/2" difference. And that is HUGE for handling inside a car, or hallway, etc.

exactly. my 16" barrel with the current FH on it now brings it to 17.25"

If it's a big deal to you FYI the BC has a huge concussion but does what it's supposed to do. I was taking a kick *** rifle skills workshop with TASC over the weekend and a fellow CG'r had a 14.5 with the BC 1.5. It sounded like a cannon going off even when he was in front of me I couldn't help but laugh he was quick going between the targets though. Personally if I was going to go 14.5 I'd go Midlength.
