Just bought a tikka t3 lite and looking to get a scope. its chambered in .223 rem, and im looking to spend anywhere from $200-$500 on it. i also was wondering, the gun came with factory mounts, people have said these are awful and should be just thrown away. should i buy new mounts?http://www.gunpricing.co.uk/files/we.../t3%20lite.jpg

Tikka T3 Lite scope suggestions

The mounts work just fine on the 2 that I own. They are 6.5X55 and 7mm-08 and they are shot alot. I would use the ones that came with the rifle. If you do replace them please send the factory ones to me for a spare scope I would like to mount up.
For a scope a Leupold/Redfield or Burris will work fine in 3X9X40 or 3.5X10X40 for general purpose. If you plan to shoot squirrels and other varmits those scopes will work but a higher power would be usefull. Something in the 4X12X40 or 6X18X40 or 6.5X20X40. If this will be used for hunting I would use a Leupold. If it is a fair weather fun gun then any scope except the real cheap ones will do.A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

Factory rings will work decently. Talley rings are a nice upgrade if you don't care for the stockers.
My T3 currently has a Leupold VX-3 2.5-8x36 on top. Works just fine for larger game. As Divernhunter said, you may want to consider something with a bit higher magnification for varmint shooting. Leupold VX-2, VX-3, or a Burris Fullfield II would be my suggestion.sigpic

I use the Dednutz one piece mount on my Tikka T3 .243. Seems to work really well, several years of dragging it around coyote hunting and it never loses zero.Originally posted by shollingSomeone else's lack of foresight and planning is no reason for you to take less than the current market value despite all of the wailing and crying for 2nd Amendment socialism and welfare pricing.Comment

Was looking at the leopold mark 4 ar, as recommended by my local gun shop. bushnell 4200, 3-9x40. AND thanks for the info on the scope mounts saved me some $$$Comment

and ill look into your suggestions. to further clarify it will be for precision target shooting and varmint shootin.

You never stated what you'll be using it for but here's what I think,
It's a very nice handling light weight rifle. I think the scope needs to be light weight to keep it from feeling top heavy. I would put a fixed 6x power on it such as the leupolfpd FX-3 6x42 (14 oz) or even lighter is the Weaver K6 (under 10 oz).
I have both scopes. The FX-3 is a bit nicer but the Weaver is lighter and costs a lot less.Comment

Heres what i found, a vortex viper 3-9x40 will cost me $300
The weaver k6 3-9x40 about $200
And for the mark AR leupold 4-12x40 about $450Comment

The Weaver K6 is 6x38 and is about $150.
A more tactical or varmint type scope would be the Bushnell elite 3200 10x40.
What will you be using he rifle for?Comment

mostly target shooting out to 300 yards. some varmint hunting in the future.Comment
