What muzzle device for AR pistol?

With barrel lengths on AR pistols from 7.5" to about 11.5" I'm wondering if there might be a benefit to a good muzzle brake but then again what barrel length and what brake is going to reduce muzzle flip or rise without being offensive to shooter?

Or, is this an area of compromise where shorter barrel means likely a flash hider device and the longer barrel better for considering brake?

Actual recoil should be less on a short barrel. Percieved recoil and blast may seem worse but they aren't. Besides a brake, a good balance and weight can reduce perceived recoil. 5.56mm is a pretty easy to handle round. I wouldn't think too hard on it. There are serious brakes like the JP recoil eliminator, micheluk, rolling thunder. There are other brakes that help tune shorter barrels or adjustable ones like the Ares Effin-A or Noveske KX3. PWS, Surefire, and Battlecomp work very well as compensators and have flash hiding abilities.

On flash hiders/brakes you can ask 10 different people and you'll get 15 different answers. With the shorter barrel the blast will already seem pretty big so I'd play with the idea of just sticking with a flash hider. Recoil shouldn't be harsh at all.

Kx3. its designed for pistol and sbr types. a straight up flash hider can add to cycling problems. you need some kind of brake to help with the blowback and help out the gas pressure. dont worry about the recoil. its nothing on ar pistols, heck its nothing on AR's period.

Kx3 looks like the ticket, I've seen them on some other pistols or Title 1's, whatever you want to call it!

Why do some of those pistol buffer tubes appear shorter than others?

Because they are. Gunsmoke extention tubes are the shortest. .22LRs don't even need extention tubes. Regular pistol tubes are the same size. There are a small amount of people who use rifle tubes.

depends on where they are from. I have heard the Asian ones are the smallest

Kx3 please for the love of god. Shooting next to AR pistols sucks enough already. Let's not add a break to the mix.

                            KX3!

Don't worry, you won't notice the extra pound hanging off the tip of your pistol!
