    Best muzzle break (A2 style)

I know there have been some discussions regarding 'muzzle breaks' in the past, especially the most 'effective' MB out there.

However, I'm looking to find the most effective A2 style muzzle break. I found this particular 'break', however, the company NEVER answers the phone. So after leaving one last message, I have decided to try to find one like it.

So any suggestions on an (effective) A2 style muzzle break would be appreciated.

Also, any suggestions on a 'thread protector'? Anything that looks 'balanced' for the barrel, but is not a large 'can' sticking out at the end of the barrel?

    My upper is a standard A2 w/ 20". I am going featureless.

    TIA

Contact EGW directly. Evolution Gun Works. George Smith, is one of THE best gunsmiths in the country. I say GUNSMITH, meaning he works on everything, and is not an AR or 1911 assembler. He's listed on the AH Top whatever # list too.

BTW...this came up in some "range" time with our PSD and SF teams that we work with. Consider the Smith brake for your AR. Incredible how much it actually works, considering it's more of a flash hider than a brake. Another good one is the YHM Fantom.

I want to find get one of those for my new coyote rig I'm building. 16" with a Millett DMS-1 on top, A1 length stock, Spectre HG. I sometimes hunt with a buddy sitting next to me so I don't want it too loud.

Just FYI, I finally got those YHM Phantom Brakes back in stock yesterday. I also have added some knurled and plain parkerized thread protectors for those that don't really want the extra noise and just want to cover the threads on their featureless build:

I have that EGW break without the bottom holes on a 20" rifle. It is THE most effective break at reducing muzzle rise I have ever seen, and I have tried them all, JP Cooley, JP tank, Miculek, Enterprise, AK, DMPS to name a few. In fact it was so effective it made the gun recoil down and not just a little but ALLOT. George at EGW suggested I drill out the exit hole to .280+, well I started there along with opening up the side ports. The final exit hole dia was 1/2" before it equalized and shot flat. It doesn't do much for rearward recoil but we're taking about a .223 here, but it does shoot flat. It has one quirk that other breaks don't, on my rifle it produces the little oscillation or wiggle after the shot that none of the others do. I shot them all back to back one day and it was the only one that did.

I have it on a stock looking A2 rifle that is pretty trick underneath. I like the look so I'm putting up with the quirk for now.

If you want one just order on-line, I did and had it in a week. They are busy at EGW and don't get to the phones very much but they make good products.
            where are my pistol mags?

Thought he was looking for a flash supressor. Sorry. Yeah...best muzzle brake/compensator out there to me is the Triangle Shooting Sports Rolling Thunder or the SJC Titan. Have both and like TMC have shot (and own) everything else. I'll need to play with TMC's mod'ed out EGW when I get home though. He's turning in to quite the gunsmith and I have a 22/45 project for ya bud.
