How Far Should I Zero My AR-15

Hello fellow calgunners! I've been learning a lot about my AR-15 as I've been shooting (I'm an AR newb) and I've been wondering, how far should I set my sights for zero? Of course in our great state of California this is not a HD gun, just for general range use and maybe some tactical carbine classes in the future. I've been told 100 yard zero is good, but why not 50 yards? Any advice is welcome!

50yd is my prefered 0. For most set ups it had minimal shifts within practical distances

That's what I'm thinking. Plus it's hard to find 100 yard ranges where I'm at.

        50. you'll be only within a few inches at the 25 and 100. And I think 50 and 200 are the same poi... or is it 50 and 250/300

In the military we usually BZO our ACOGS at 36 yards I believe. They told us 36 yds simulates 300 because of the arc of the bullet.

            If I remember correctly...we set ours at 25 yards = 100 yards considering arc. 55 grain....1/9 twist

Well it looks like I'll be setting my rifle to 50 yard zero. Should I set my irons first and they sight my acog to confirm? Or the other way around?

I zero'd my aimpoint at 50 yards. Imo, zero your irons first, then optics. But you can do it the other way around if you want.. it doesnt really matter to be honest.

I just zeroed my irons in at 100 yards and my EOtech at 75 yards yesterday. Had to go to BLM to get those distances though.

I also agree with the consensus. 50 yards. I have an ACOG atop my A2 carry handle along with the A2 front sight. Both the irons, and the 4x are dead on at 50 yards.

the ar-15 is made to be zeroed in at 25 meters and then fine tuned at 300 set the settings on your rear sight to 8/3 6/3 what ever your sight has and sight it is at 25 meters it will be on paper at 300 and just needs fine tuning!
