    BM59 Kali Legal w/o Tricomp?

Per the flow chart, a standard BM59 is a Kali no-no due to the grenade launch apparatus combined with the tricompensator incorporating a flash suppressor, so two black marks. But if the tricomp were replaced by a plain vanilla gas lock, would the rifle pass muster? Though the grenade sight operated gas spindle valve would still be present, it would not be a functional grenade launcher without the tricomp. What say?

P.S. - I seem only able to reach this site in the early morning (PDT), after which it times out.

I think BM59 was banned by name in addition to having some no-no features.

59 and 62 both banned by name.

Edit: BM62 is good to go.

Step 1. Buy a Rack Grade M1 Garand from CMP.(or just buy the complete rifle from Shuff’s)

Step 2. Send it to Tim Shiflin for a “BM-14” conversion.

Voilà, a CA legal BM59 style rifle that can take 10 rounds M14 magazines.

A Shuff BM14 conversion is one option I'm considering. So if I send him a donor Garand with a BM59 parts kit, will the result be Kali okay if it retains the BM59 gas cylinder with grenade sight and spindle valve but not the tricompensator, instead just a simple gas lock like a BM62?

Not sure about that. You can buy the whole rifle from him as well if you don’t want to use your own Garand. He takes parts as trade in value as well.. Not a lawyer but his BM-14 Garand is not a BM-59.

If he uses an M1 receiver, its an M 1. Its never going to be a banned by name BM 59

Years ago, I purchased a BM59, this was when it was still legal to have C&R rifles shipped directly to your home if you had a FFL03. I then learned it was banned by name. I then purchased a M1 Garand receiver that had been modified to use the BM59 mags and swapped out the receivers. I the stored the receiver out of state for when I leave this state to restore the original receiver. That day is almost here. 1 year to retirement and I am moving to Montana to be near my son, his wife, and the grandchildren.
Anyone can look around and see the damage to the state and country inflicted by bad politicians.

A vote is clearly much more dangerous than a gun.

Why advocate restrictions on one right (voting) without comparable restrictions on another (self defense) (or, why not say 'Be a U.S. citizen' as the requirement for CCW)?

Springfield Armory BM59 is banned by name (like Colt Sporter). A JRA BM59 without the tricomp is fine. JRA has also told me they will mark it "BM62" if requested.

See, this guy knows what's up. Firearms must be banned by BOTH make AND model-only one of the two doesn't cut it.
