Whats up with 223/556 Ammo Prices?

Has it been 4 years already? I just went to a bunch of sites to find the lowest price on 556 and it has jumped through the roof.

I bought a 1000rds of lake city xm193 in October for $289 from Cheaper than dirt (Ammo 5.56x45mm Federal Lake City FMJBT 55 Grain 3250 fps 1000 Round Case item #57281 to be exact), and now its like $400? Plus its out of stock at most places. I did find some PMC for $350 from Ammotogo for 1000rds of PMC.

    Thoughts?

It's been up for a while and will only get worse. I did find a receipt for some prvi m855 I bought in early 2009. I pad 450 per k and that stuff flew off the shelves. Can't believe I was stupid enough to pay that much.

You got jacked! Return it if you still can. There's a few members selling green tips in the Marketplace for way less.

5.56 and .223 prices are through the roof. I bought 1k of PMC Bronze for as cheap as $279.00 per 1K in March. XM193 is even more expensive and harder to find. It will come down again after the elections at some point but I do fear that the days of less than .30 per round are over permanently. Too many people have ARs, election craziness, EOTW craziness, stupid zombie prep, ammo shortages due to military and government contracts, there are a lot of factors.

I totally agree with you guys. Not only is it hard to find but it's damn expensive when you actually do find some. I've been desperately looking around for some xm193 and the sites are either out of stock or they're charging like $8-$10 for a box of 20. Ridiculous!

You need to start buying in bulk when the prices are good. I don't see the rising 5.56 prices subsiding anytime this year. I have a backorder for XM193 with Brownells and I just keep adding more and more cases to it since I know it's not going to get any cheaper. It's going to end up being my single largest ammo purchase of the past few years....I guess I'm not really helping with availability

I know. It was a spur of the moment buy, and they have a no ammo return policy, not only that this was back in March also. I learned my lesson now.

Suburban commandos are up armoring and stockpiling ammo for the impending zombie invasion or other douchey EOTW armageddon fantasies.

Have you heard anything from Brownells about when they expect ammo in? I have 3k on backorder @ about $0.27/rd shipped.... BUT no idea when its coming in.

Last I heard, it was 'trickling' in, but who knows; as long as it arrives sometime this calendar year, I'm happy. I have 40k on backorder at the same price - what a bargain it's going to be when it finally ships! When was your order date?

My order started out as 2 cases though, honest! A few of the cases are for some friendly local Calgunners. (edit: please don't PM me about this)

The rising prices have convinced me that now is the time to finally lock myself into a good supply so I don't get nipped in the butt every election year. 2008 sucked.
