20 round SKS "fixed" Mag. Is this rare and legal to use in CA ?

I bought this in the 90s for my Russian SKS and it did not fit well being a Chinese part. Is it rare and would it be a problem having it on a SKS rifle in CA.

Installing it would turn the SKS into an illegal assault weapon. Semi-auto centerfire rifles with fixed magazines holding more than 10 rounds are assault weapons in California.

Here's a link to the handy flow-chart that you can use to tell if your rifle's configuration is legal in California...

It's a good thing it didn't fit because if it had you would #1 manufactured an assault weapon and # 2 possession of an assault weapon

Either fix it so it does not more than ten rounds, sell it to an out of stater, destroy it, or keep it for SHTF. Don't put it on a gun in this state, in it's state.

            Those mags are unreliable anyway.

My dad had that identical one on his norinco many years with absolutely no problem.

Well, no reason to destroy it. It's not illegal to own (just don't install it) so no reason to jump the gun on how to get rid of it. I have two of these from removing and converting to less-than-10 round fixed mags when Dan Lungren played liberal kitty on a fence.

If some level of government had that information, what would they do with it? How would having that info benefit public safety? How would it benefit law enforcement?

Cool story, but do some research. Most of them have feeding issues that are well documented.
