I just got a Bulgarian 74 kit, and when I checked the numbers, the front trunnion and dust cover are marked with 4 digit numbers, but the bolt, bolt carrier, and extractor just have the last 3 digits. Does anyone know what the reason is for this? I'm just curious.

Space savings. Some countries do all 4 digits, some (like Romania) put all symbols and digits on them.
The purpose is to keep the parts "matched" together for functional rigfle use. If your rebuilding from a kit, the only numbers that matter to match are the bolt, trunion and barrel. If those aren't matching, you'll just need to set headspace and repin the barrel.
JustinFor any questions contact me by email.
Thanks,
Justin

Thanks. That's what I thought. Unfortunately I have a virgin barrel for my kit so it does not match. Not really gun related but check out my friends' blog: basbrow.comComment
