I was just wondering what type of ammo you guys will be putting through your new California Legal AR builds. I read the ammo oracle over at ar15.com. I was thinking of staying between 60gr and 75gr loads? Any suggestions?

I've used 55 and 62 gr exclusively in my 1 in 7" Colts. I just recently acquired a 500 ct box of 77gr Sierra Match Kings to play around with in my MK12 Mod 1 themed SPR.
I may try the Nosler 77s since Ammo Oracle claims better fragmentation over the Sierras. I also have two 100-ct boxes of the Hornady 75gr HPBT bullets to play around with, too.
If you want a good cheap round, stick with 55gr for best fragmentation over the 62. You can go with the Hornady TAP ammo or Black Hills blue box for the heavier stuff. Or if you reload, then you have a lot of options.

Cheap and accurate? hmm...Originally posted by dongerAngeles range doesn't allow the use of steel cored ammo due to fire dangers. I would love to shoot some milsurp but need another alterative that is cheap and accurate. Any suggestions?
People seem to like the Winchester White Box from WalMart for plinking and blasting.
FYI, M855 and XM855 is a 62 grain that has a steel penetrator, but XM193 is just a 55 grain FMJ.Disenfranchised NRA Benefactor Life Member.

Sorry I meant without steel penetrators. I have a bunch of XM855 but had it confiscated during my last outing at Angeles. One of the ROs asked for a round and the tip stuck to the magnet so it was a no-no.Certified RagaholicComment

AIM Surplus will be offering Guatamalan(sp) 5.56 55 grain in 360 round battle packs for about 62.00 each. Some may want to stock up on this ammo. I have used a few thousand of this in the past and its good stuff. Century Arms currently has some 1440 round cases for $260.00 if you have an account with them.Comment
