    For 16" barrel, 6.5 Grendel or 6.8?

I've read that 6.5G outclasses the 6.8 in the distance category, but I'm not sure if it would have the same result if both were to be shot from a 16" barrel.

So if strictly on a 16" barrel, can a 6.5 still have the "ump" to knock down a target at say 700 yards?

Also, with the Grendel now being SAMMI specs, has anyone read or hear anything new about this caliber? any new manufacturer making announcements to release new builds?

From articles I've read, I like the Grendel. But if it will not make much difference on a carbine length barrel, then I might as well settle for the 6.8, has wider support base than the Grendel.

The difference between the two out of a 16" barrel won't be all that much. If you want the longer range performance out of the 6.5, you are going to need to go with a longer barrel. 6.8 is designed to get good performance out of shorter barrels, and be effective out to 300 yards. It is capable of much more than that, but that is its primary objective. The 6.5 is meant to be a longer range target/hunting cartridge. But to get the most out of it, the longer tube is essential. That doesn't mean that you can't thump things with it out of shorter barrels. But that isn't what it was designed for. As for having enough power at 700 yards, how much power do you need it to have? If you are punching paper, and can hit that far away, I am sure you could get away with either. If you are talking about zombies, lizard men, space aliens, or black helicoptors, I wouldn't think so. If you are planning on using it on game animals, absolutely not.

      this is a great summation.

the 6.8 does well out of shorter barrels out to 300yds.

      the 6.5 LOVES a longer barrel. 20-24in...
