OLL Assembly Guide

I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that Calguns seemed to be missing a guide to how to assemble an OLL and a member here stepped up, took some pictures and logged each step. I'd like to give them credit but like always, I'll wait until they say it's okay.

I have compiled the pictures and text in to a basic web page, very basic but then graphic design isn't it's purpose (or my strength).

So let me know what you think and what needs to be adjusted if anything.

nice. my first ar i had blind spot pawn put it together. i just started getting parts for my second to put together myself. even though i read alot the visuals are really going to help alot. thanks

Looks pretty good. You may want to add a few words about some of the "problem areas" such as how to avoid losing your spring/detent when installing the pivot pin (plastic bag, clevis pin, etc...). Also, I would probably warn people not to dry fire the lower once the hammer is in place, things like that.

That would be correct. I suppose you could use a rock if you don't mind the finish of the lower being compromised.

Looks like you have some type of Loc-tite there, which screws/bolts do you use it on?

I'm REALLY glad you have a picture and description of each of the components before using them, so I'll have an idea of what's in the bag I'll be looking for!

Also, a little bit more description or info about the buffer area would be nice, looks like you get it started, then poof! it's all done! How far down, how hard, etc. please!
Does the castle nut (or CAR) wrench come with the build kit, or is that something else we need to buy? Is there a tool pool on here to borrow and forward on some of these specialty tools? (one of my car sites used to have something like that, now it's a little more informal, but still there! Allows everyone to share the cost of the tool, and eventually drops so low, that it's simply a lend/share process)

Great site though Kest! Very informative! I saw a similar site the other day and it inspired me to actually BUY a lower so's I can build my very own! Your site keeps me going! Thumbs up!

Loc-tite is recommended on the BB instructions but I think it can be optional since it goes in pretty tight. I'm not sure how hard it would be to remove after the loc-tite if you ever want to replace the BB.

The CAR wrench has to be bought separately unless it comes with the kit. I got mine from Coldwar Shooters/Pirate14 for $9.75. Once you get the tube on the buffer and spring just slides in and the buffer retainer will catch/hold in place.

WARNING!! Filing BB

Altho filing down the burr of the BB will make it going in easier... yet one may be able to pull out the BB if the burr is filed down!! The burr was there FOR A SERIOUS REASON!!

If one can pull out the BB after the burrs are filed down, and tilt the BB, then push down again, one may be able to release the magazine..... hence, releasing the magazine without use of a tool.... ie. ASSAULT WEAPON!!

So... beware....

** it is better to just leave the burrs there, and just hammer the BB into the lower receiver.... **
