I have a Mauser k98k, recently acquired, and have learned that the bolt is supposed to catch on the magazine follower to "alert" the user its time to reload. So that eliminates one question I had. The other...
When loading the first round from a full magazine, which sits slightly to the right, the bolt strips the round and often seems to point it up at a 45 degree angle, causing it to impact the top of the receiver just prior to the chamber and jamming it into that position.
I am using Remington Express "core lokt" 8mm 170grn soft nose semi jacketed ammo.
If I use my thumb, I can guide the first round properly into the chamber, and I do not have this problem with the following four rounds.
Has anyone else experienced this with German Mausers, or is this something I should have a gunsmith look at?
