Does my hammer look pitted with rust/corrosion?

Or is it just cast this way?

I never really looked at it until I was changing out my stock this time......

the rifle (mini 14 s/s 196) is about 12 years old.

My dad has owned it the first 10 years and myself the last 2, and i've never really looked at it too closely. It is stored in a gun safe with some of those little moisture reduction packs, as well as being cleaned with only hoppes and or clp.

    Does this look bad?

Doesn't look rusty to me. It may have been the casting process.

That's fine for a mini, they are a little rough. Check the engagement surfaces, they should be clean and shinny, that's the important part.

Ruger made their reputation with cast parts. Without any machining to clean it up, a cast part will look like that. Since the hammer is buried inside, who cares what it looks like

Have no fear your fine. Like the other said it's a natural look of the casting process.
