Changing upper for a registered AR

I remembered when I registered my post-ban AR15, I had to specify the barrel length as 20". The the registration confirmation letter I received only showed Serial#, Make, Model, Type, and Caliber. There was no mentioning of barrel length. Does that mean I can swap my 20" upper with a 16" upper without any issue?

    Thanks.

Yes, you can change the upper.

You can also change the stock (fixed, folding, or collapsible) and pistol grip.

The only thing you can not do is put a barrel less than 16 inches on it. And the rifles overall length must be at least 26 inches.

        Other than that... go wild!

            +1

Also, 26" pertains to non-semi centerfires as well.

in this case, it is 26" for both rimfire and centerfire.

Because it is a RAW, and the legal minimum is 26" on RAW.

because in this case, the OP has a Registered AW so there is no 30" rule in play here.

post-ban as in post-federal AW ban, 1994-2004. He stated that it was "registered" as a CA AW, most likely during the 2000 registration period, so even though it was not a federal AW (hence "post ban"), it was a CA AW. Once the federal AW ban expired, he was free to modify his rifle without violating any federal AW ban. And since it is already registered as a CA AW, the CA 30" rule does not apply. And neither does the CA feature ban apply
