Why is the disconector spring conical and which way does it install?, and is it correct if the safety will only engage when the hammer is cocked?

the larger end goes down into the trigger. saftey only moves when hammer is cocked. -
That should help with the first question and yes to the second one. The safety is only needed when the hammer is back.Comment

Install disconnector spring with the wider portion of spring down towards trigger and push until it locks in there. I believe it is tapered to allow you to lock the spring in place.
The safety only works when you actually need it, when the hammer is cocked. If it isn't cocked, the gun won't fire wether the safety is engaged or not.sigpic
