White Oak Armory worth the wait? And critique my build so far...

I am building my lower right now and have been eyeing a White Oak upper for a while. Contacted them and the lead time for an upper is 3-5 months. I'm not a patient guy, but I do like to spend my money on quality parts and if waiting is worth it I don't mind. Their uppers don't seem to be too much more expensive than others and I've read nothing but good reviews on them.
Is there anyone else that makes comparable uppers with less wait time? I like bench shooting, and will be shooting between 100-400 yards regularly but would like to be able to go farther. Accuracy is important to me, as is quality for the price.

    My build so far:
    Spikes stripped lower
PSA Magpul Gen 2 lower parts kit
    Spikes buffer kit
    Magpul CTR stock

Also, aside from optics/sights is there anything else I will need for the build? With the above parts it seems like my lower is complete, but I'm not sure if I'm missing anything or if I'll be ready to pin on an upper and a scope and go shooting.
    Thanks for any help/advice.
    ed.

    White Oak Armory
    Compass Lake Engineering
    Keystone Accuracy

All make very good uppers, WOA is the least expensive. If you don't want to wait CLE has service uppers of great quality on the shelf for ~$900. Is 3-5months worth $250 to you?

I would include a good trigger. At least a RRA NM trigger.

Looks like they have an RRA NM on their website for $710 which is a great price. I'd rather have a WOA but if you can't stomach the wait then I'd do it.

I just got my WOA 20" 1:8 varmint barrel and like it so far. I waited almost 8 weeks to get mine and felt it was worth the wait.

WOA are uppers made with Wilson barrels chambered, profiled and crowned by Frank at Compass Lake Engineering, sold to John and assembled at WO (afaik).

RRA NM uppers are made with Wilson barrels that I assume RRA chambers and profiles.

I don't know how or if RRA installes a windage adjustable front sight. IF you are not getting a service upper then you don't care.

Was the 8 weeks pretty close to what they quoted you when you ordered? Nice sig, btw.

Not sure yet. I really like the Varmint uppers and will mostly be shooting with a scope, but I'd like iron sights also. I'm new to AR's so I'm not sure if the Varmint upper can be assembled with irons or not. If I get a service upper, I could still add a scope, right? I think I would just need a quick detach mount. Can anyone clear that up for me?

                The simple answer is, YES.

AR accuracy rides on barrels, triggers and handloads. White Oak hands down.

If you have a varmint then irons will always be secondary and crappy. If you have a service upper then you could always put a scope on it.

I'd stick with one of the small companies if you do decided not to wait. CLE and Keystone are both good people. Both will build you whatever the hell you want. Just call them and talk to them. John will do this too by the way. It's important (I think) to support small business.

buy the parts and put it together yourself. WOA makes great stuff but nothing you need them to put together for you, therefor lead time is just shipping and the 30 minutes to screew a barrel on an upper and stuff a float tube on it. brownells has videos to show you how.

-also, I was real hesitant about it, but years ago I bought a bushmaster NM barrel. could'nt be happier. its their chrome lined 'match' version and the proof was in the pudding. with match load im seeing sub moa out of a high power service setup. price was cheap for that kinda performance, i think they are still only 225 bucks? and also being able to shoot the piss out of it due to being chrome lined, and fast to clean when the groups open up.

I will also say stag's model 4 barrel is another great barrel. (probably the same wilson WOA uses who knows)
I have it on a coyote gun that shoots even better, best 3 shot group ive made was around 1/2moa @ 100y.
not sure if you need to have a muzzle device on you uppers...

I have a lot to think about now.
I'm leaning towards the WOA since that is what my gut is telling me. Its gonna be a sad few months of looking at an upperless lower... but sounds like it will be worth it.

Next question: what is the barrel life on these types of uppers?

Fave AR I've had so far. Barrel is rainier ultra match but white oak 16" would be a great choice too.

I saw lilja 17" drop ins on another site that might be an idea.

(yes it has mag lock and 10/20 round pmag)

                            Look at http://adcofirearms.com/

They have some White Oak barrels, uppers, and BCGs that they can put together for you. I just ordered an SPR 18" w/ matching bolt from them.

What other parts did you use to build that? Looks good, def the style I'm going for. I like the handguard and will be adding a bipod to my build.
