how do you identify a North Korean SKS?

just curious for future reference. today at the gun show in costa mesa there was an old dude with an sks that he claimed was NK, but i did not know how to identify one. i didn't want to get scammed so i moved on.

he was asking $350 for it. it had a beat up stock, a lot of the bluing was gone, quite a few dings and pitting on the top metal handguard. - hope that helps as a price reference point.

Same way you do with most things, look at the markings on the receiver

If he has the video of him taking it off a deads N. Korean soldier, that would do it.

According to yooper john's site, It should have a star inside a circle above the number 63 next to a korean character on the receiver cover. The site also shows that it should have a blade bayonet. I have attached a pic I found.

when you shoot it it'll make bombastic pronouncements of its superiority, laugh maniacally and squirt Hennessey out the front to the sounds of cheers from millions of starving civilians applauding.

Are there chew marks on the stock from where the starving soldier tried to eat it? If so I'd vote yes.

As usual, follow the rule "Buy the gun, not the story."

In this case, passing was probably a good idea. If he didn't try to show you the markings indicating it was a NK SKS, then that's a red flag in my opinion.

If it was really a NK SKS, you go tthe deal of a CENTURY! At $350 it's worth taking a chance.

no i didn't get it. i passed and found some nice cheap vests and also had to pass on a nice belarus scope due to a lack of funds.

just curious, how much is one worth? say in a beat up condition?

A North Korean in almost any condition will go for $1000+. It is one of the hardest SKS's to find, at least here in the USA.
