Anyone have experience with Red Jacket Firearms ??

I was thinking about getting an AR through RedJacket and was wondering if anyone has any experience dealing with them.
I have read a few things online but would like some personal experience if possible.

    TIA. G

No personal experience with them ... but from watching some episodes ... just make sure that you have Chris build you the "Desert AR"!

Why would anyone do this, when there are so many quality assemblers out there?

Please, for the love of God, DONT. buy from a respectable dealer, or build your own. Red jacket is over rated and not worth your money.

That's why I posted this. I'm new to the AR's. Well I'm new period
If you could also point me in the right direction of who is a good builder
I have been reading a lot and leading as I go.
Building my own now there's a thought. Like I said I'm new and I'm not sure if I would trust my builds.
Thanks for all the comments. That's why this place is here. Great info

Here is a quick question...do you think their prices are based on the superb quality of the work they do or maybe the sudden popularity of their TV show?

If you can afford the Red Jacket stuff, then DD, LMT and many others should be attainable. What where you looking to spend?

+1 for SOG interesting another newbie into the wonderful world of EBRs.

-5 for SOG making a neophyte think that they are worth anywhere near the time and wait it would take to buy one of RJ's own, especially an AR.

Buying a RJ AR would be like buying a Harley Davidson edition Ford F150. Really just fake pinstripes on what is probably about as generic of an AR as exists, then putting a 300% markup for those logos.

You can get so much better for so much less. Keep telling yourself, "EVERYTHING on TV is fake" because it is, including the skill level and competency of certain gun shops.

Go with Daniel Defense, LMT, Stag, LWRC... thats a good place to start. but building your own is fun, and if you are scared of your work, buy a complete upper and just build the lower.

Devil's advocate here! As the OP stated, OP wanted to know if anybody had any info based on owning any of thier guns not "what you saw on TV"!

So far I have seen no real answers!

I assembled my first AR from a stripped lower and a complete upper, as a noob. It's not hard at all. Watch the Brownells AR assembly videos, read everything you can while you are getting your parts together and then take your time. The hardest part is getting the bolt catch roll pin in, but if you get the bolt catch pin punch from Brownells it isn't really hard at all. Just put some electrical tape around the area so you don't scratch the lower.

A couple things I learned from my mistakes and others:
Always support the "ears" when installing the trigger guard roll pin. If you don't you WILL break one off of your lower.
The disconnector spring and the bolt catch spring look almost exactly alike, pay attention, the disconnector spring is flared at one end, that end goes into the trigger assembly.
If you are going with a collapsible stock you should stake your castle nut, it's the correct way to do it.

Building from a stripped lower is so easy a caveman could do it. Better get on is ASAP though, the run is already starting.

Build your own. Same quality and you can learn how it works. Unless you just want to be able to tell your friends that you own a Red Jacket. I would take more pride and the friends will respect you more if you do it yourself. That's just my opinion.

If I'm not mistaken their best gunsmith, Vince Buckles, quit a while back.
It's documented on the show and he posted a big "F*** Y**" to them once online but subsequently withdrew it.
As it stands he was one of three workers that were authorized FFL dealers ... since Will and his daughter lost theirs when they couldn't account for 10 rifles to the feds.

All in all it seems like a shoddy company to deal with IMO. Vince seemed like the most stand up guy in the shop but his leaving says a lot about the company that remains.
