Springfield M1A Question

I just got a M1A w/ Walnut stock but I also like doing a little tactical stuff here and there. I'm dumbfounded at the moment. When I take it out for some tactical stuff I don't want to beat the stock up. Wondering to go with a Synthetic Stock from Springfield or a Troy Industry.

Here my question with the troy industry it makes it consist of a pistol grip per california butt ramming politics does using this make it into a AW?

Just buy a cheap synthetic (regular) stock.

Remember, if it is center fire AND has a detachable magazine, it cannot have:

1) Pistol Grip
2) Forward Grip
3) Thumbhole Stock
4) Flash Suppressor
5) Collapsible Stock
6) Grenade Launcher
7) Nuclear Weapon

A little pricier but it has a traditional style butt stock. Keep in mind though, there are two different stocks depending if your M1A has a heavy barrel. just fyi.

Snag a GI synthetic or wood stock, they're out there at reasonable prices. No AW worries, no worries about beating it up as most of them come to you pre-beaten (although you can still find GI stocks in very good condition if you look around) and still work well. Mine is currently wearing a GI walnut stock while I work over the GI synthetic that Springfield sprayed black paint on.

They sell used m1a wood stocks on gunbroker. They're usually cheaper then the synthetic stocks. They will be kinda beat up though. Wood can be refinished.

You can get a beat up stock for as little as 4 bucks. You just have to fill, refinish and paint them. If you call and ask nicely they'll pick out a decent one for you.

CMP is also a great place to buy a walnut stock.

Making it look cool is not going to make it shoot better with all the buttons and whistles. Think about the guts to be improved. {"Sadlak"} Tactical BS on a M!A just makes it look mean. Less is better. Less is lighter. Less stuff on an M!A will prevent one becoming tangled and less concerned about the rifle become fragile with a bunch of BS on it. You would then lose your concentration and then become a statistic. The enemy will love love you for that. If you want to think tactical with a bunch of stuff added on it, forget it. Use a black rifle. If anything, just scope it for medium range (2-300m) sniping.

If u wanna go fancy and by a tacticool stock with a pistol grip just buy the "bullet button" for the m1a...just google it and youll pull up the link. Super easy to install in the trigger group...pop a rill pin pull out mag release and insert new one with spring that requires to use of a tool and reinsert roll pin and done! Darn this state is chease d++k!!!

The M1A is one of the LAST battle rifles we can own unmolested in this state -- why the Frack would you neuter it to use a pistol grip stock???
Ugh! This is how THEY WIN.
The M1A is great without a pistol grip. You want to shoot a psiol gripped 308 get a AR10 type.

For you, get a used GI or plastic springfield stock for when you want to run around tactical. Changing the stocks takes SECONDS.

The M1A is one of those rare semi-automatic rifles you should leave "featureless".

The walnut stock can take quite a beating. You can dent and scratch the thing, then go home and steam out the flaws. I use a wet washcloth and the tip of a hot iron. I have to admit I'm pretty picky and don't try to beat up my stock but so far, after 25 years my Super Match still looks like new.
