This thread proves once and for all that California has too many lame a s s , vague gun laws that the average or even advanced person can not possibly decipher.

This thread actually proves...
that there's a difference between state and federal law...
that the laws are clear and you can find them both on the state and federal websites...
that reading comprehension is sometimes challenging...
and that the ability to search the internet is somewhat lacking...

You can carry your gun anywhere you like, as long as it's locked seperately from any ammunition you have with you. I have gun locked in it's bag (luggage lock will do) and I have my ammo locked in a modified ammunition box. I don't usually take it out, only when I'm going to the range. However, you're alright going through school zones as long as it is LOCKED. I don't believe a magazine lock counts.I wanted to keep a 22 rifle in each of my vehicles for SHTF situations. These are just in case something happens while I'm at work (I work in South Central) and I have to get home. If I'm understanding the law right as long as the rifle isn't loaded I'm cool right? FYI this thread is about rifle storage in a vehicle please don't tell me that the 22 is a horrible defense weapon, I understand that, but I would rather bring a gun to a gun fight and not a knife.
As far as a .22lr for defense, it will enter somebody, and do damage. It's deadly. Kills Coyote's just fine. Probably in part because it usually won't exit the body. It will go in, bounce around, possibly shatter, and do some damage. It's also light, and the ammo is cheap. So don't let people tell you it's not worth having.
So in short:
Lock it up.
Drive as you wish.
Don't worry about it.
KEEP YOUR AMMUNITION SEPARATE. I don't believe it is necessary to lock it up; I do, because I'd rather give someone no excuse to point a finger.
Have a nice day.
*IF* I have said anything inaccurate, call me out. I'm repeating what I was told when I asked transportation questions several months ago. As far as I know, nothing has changed.Last edited by Exdc; 03-21-2012, 12:02 AM.Radical Centerist (That's me) Philosophy:Originally posted by Unknown"I want gay married couples to be able to protect their marijuana plants with guns." -Unknown (possibly Tim Moen)

Letter of the law is 'not in the gun'; keeping ammo separate is perhaps helpful to avoid misunderstandings.

What if it's the middle of July and schools are on summer vacation, or a National holiday and the federal buildings are closed? THEN can I drive around them with out having my gun locked in a case in the trunk with ammo in a separate locked container inaccessible to myself as the driver? Oh, wait I have a truck without a trunk...now what???
