AK Single stack to double stack conversion (lo cap to hi cap)

Bought a WASR-10 blindly not knowing what single vs double stack was. The guys at the place I bought it from didn't care to mention to me that I could've bought a double stack that accepts universal AK mags but they failed, obviously they did not fail as salesmen.

A few weeks pass and finally I sucked it up and went for the conversion. Bought a double stack mag at ammo bros today and went off on my AK. Just thought I'd share some pics, I know most of you guys know what it looks like, but to anyone planning to buy an AK or who accidentally bought a single stack WASR, check this out.

Switched between this bit and a flat sanding bit.

    Another hour later

    Perfect fit, no wobble.

Thanks for looking. By the way, selling my old single stack mags.

The standard pain in the butt one that comes with the wasr. I can't even take it off, I think I have to break it off with a dremel if I ever chose to do so (because I would be moving out of state in that case).

Final magwell pic after cleaning. Not as symmetrical as I'd like, but fits my one promag great (will custom fit tapco mags when they arrive).

Good job. I just purchased a wasr 10 also without doing proper research but I was lucky and mine was a double.

I actually chose the single stack when buying my WASR, it is due to the price tag of only $389.98 and did the widening of the Mag slot after shooting it with the single stack for a while (just making sure it did not malfunction at all), it wasn't that bad, just a lot of metal shaving after

That's all I worry about, any malfunction after widening magwell? Do the bullets feed properly all the time?

By the way 389.98 was a great price, how long ago was that? Mine was $460 last month.

460 where? Turners has them right now for 529. Ive been wanting one but I'm hoping the price will come down a bit. I think the ones at turners are double stack. If they are do you guys think 529 is a fair price for a wasr?

That's a fair price. I've heard a few years ago the WASR10 used to go for anywhere from $200-$300. Now it's around $400-$500. The best price I can find anything at is usually at Riflegear, and Riflegear is charging $549.99 for a double stack WASR-10 that hasn't been in stock for a couple months. I say $529 is a great deal, for a WASR. I've got no problems with my WASR, great gun, but read other posts about AK's. You can suck it up and spend an extra $200 for a nicer AK (I'm not too familiar with brands), or join a build party for less when they are available. However, like I said, I haven't had a problem with my WASR and like a lot of other calgunners, many who have WASRs love them.

By the way, that sale price at Turner's ended today, however I'm sure if you go there they will probably offer you the WASR for 529 still if they have some in stock. They're pretty flexible about their prices.

That was last year July or August at Turners, it shot fine after I widened the magwell, I'm using Surplus metal magazines.
