    AR sight placement

    I am mounting Troy flip-up sights on my AR build and was wondering something. Do they need to be set a certain distance apart from each other? Can you actually place them to far or to close to one another?

    Also, does anyone in the Folsom area have a Yankee Hill barrel nut wrench, mine is still waiting to be shipped and it is the only thing I need to finish my build.

      In theory the further they are (called sight radius) the better, they are more precise that way. However, depending on your eyes and set up it is possible to have them "too far"

      Start at the furthest length possible, if you have no issues leave it like that.

          Luckily I have eyes like a hawk so I will put the front on the very end of my free float and the rear farthest back on the upper.

              MrPlink is right on - however you do want your rear sight to be far enough away from your eye that the aperture view is not so huge as to lose the rear sight in the overall picture, nor so far away that you cant see all of the front sight.

              Does that make sense?

              It's getting the proper eye relief in addition to proper sight placement.

                  Good point, I take that for granted as it seems like common sense(to me anyways), but def worth mentioning.

                      The rear sight doesn't need to be that far away from the eye. With A2 rear, my nose is touching the charging handle. That's how I index.
