Any of you featureless guys using a thread protector instead of a muzzle brake?

I am contemplating just using a thread protector because first, the recoil of a .223 is not much, and mainly because I don't want the extra muzzle flash and blast that pretty much all brakes produce.

Yes, I have seen a couple brakes that have their ports facing forward, like the Levang, but it seemed kinda large and more bulky than what I was hoping for.

So basically, does anyone use just a thread protector, and how do you like it?

Why have nothing when you can have something?

MB will reduce recoil and allow for more accurate and faster follow up shots. If you will be using it as a range toy then who cares but if you plan to use it as a combat weapon because you are going featureless then that would matter.

I used to. Wish I had stuck with it. The only difference I noticed with the brake was it got louder.

I have thread protectors on all my featureless rifles. I prefer them to brakes for the reasons stated above.

If you do go with a thread protector either use something stronger then blue loctite to hold it on or get on that uses crush washers.

I don't use any thread locker on mine and it stays put. Didn't like the noise and a 5.56 doesn't have much recoil. Thread protector ftw.

Come to think of it, I had that problem too. I fixed it by cleaning the threads really well with Gun Scrubber, then applying much more blue loctite than usual (basically, covered the whole thread instead of just one or two dots).

My theory is that since aluminum expands nearly twice as much as steel from heat, the thread protector broke away from the loctite when the barrel got hot.

Blue loctite should be fine, I use it on a 308 and have no issues, make sure you apply it correctly.

Never used blue loctite before... How do you apply it? sorry for the newbness...
