Interested in a .308 bolt action with threaded barrel

Trying to find a bolt action .308 with a threaded barrel within the $400-600 range. Leaning more toward the lighter side. Any suggestions? I've been looking at the Ruger American and the Savage 11 FCNS, but neither of them have threaded barrels. The Savage Hog Hunter looks pretty cool, but I'm still waiting to hear more about it/get my hands on one. What say you?

I fondled a Savage Hog Hunter earlier this week.

Didn't get to shoot it, but assuming Savage's traditional accuracy it would be a great rifle IMO. A tad heavy compared to the 11FCNS, but not to heavy for a brush gun. Nice high profile back up iron sights, heavier contour (but not bull) barrel, oversize bolt know. It felt good when I put it to my shoulder a couple times and seemed to balance nicely. It was priced at $450, which seemed reasonable. I'm not sure of the exact barrel length, but it was slightly shorter than your average factory bolt .308.

Not having owned or shot one I know that's not worth the time it took me to type, but it's an opinion to consider.

I was going to ask you where you got to check one out, but then I saw your location and lost hope haha. Yea, I've read that it's a pretty well-rounded rifle. What was your opinion on the stock? Was the barrel free-floated?

What do you plan on doing with it? and don't say "shooting", I know.
I've played around a bit with my Howa M1500 RLS. Originally purchased through Gunbroker for I believe $260. I don't recall the exact amount, but it was inexpensive enough for me to go ahead and do what I wanted, on my own. The full length barrel wasn't really my thing as I'm not a long distance shooter. At 16.5" and .308 is plenty fun for me.

The Spanish FR-8 has a threaded barrel, but it's not NRA approved as it's not made in the USA.

I was looking for something light enough to hunt with. I'm looking into a rifle with an Accu-trigger or something similar.

A lightweight hunting rifle with a threaded barrel is going to be a tough search, especially for your budget. Maybe Howa makes something, or you could look for a used gun and re-barrel the way you want.

savage 200 but doesnt have threaded barrel

Explore Savage's range of rifles, shotguns, and handguns, designed for any hunting or shooting need. Innovative features ensure there's a Savage for everyone.

or the savage axis sr which has a threaded barrel

If its for hunting why do you need a threaded barrel?

Also a smith can thread the barrel for you for about $80-$100.

It looked free-floated but I didn't try to slip a dollar down between the action and the stock. As to the stock, typical factory savage synthetic stock. It didn't seem flimsy, but it wasn't anything special either.

It seemed like a nice rifle, but may be slightly heavier than you're wanting. I'd remove the "threaded" requirement, look at everything on the market, and keep in mind $75 will get you a quality cut/thread job on the rifle of your choice.

I want threads for a muzzle brake when I'm not hunting. Yea, yea I don't wanna hear "oh .308 doesn't kick" "you have to re-zero" etc etc. Looking to get a rifle that I can hunt with and also do some target shooting. Nothing crazy

Slightly more but definitely worth the price:

*Note: A stock one is about $100 less w/o the CeraKoting.

How about a Ruger gunsite scout in .38?

I've heandled them (not fired) and they look like a good platform to work with. My only gripe is that they are using either an actual AICS magazine or (close copy) and the lack of a forward locking lug, the magazine seems a bit sloppy in the Ruger scout. Slightly closer tolerances would be nice.
