Question of CA legality on 3 H&K pistols...

Anyone now if the following pistols are banned in California:

    H&K 4
    H&K VP70Z
    SP89

Considering how old the first two are, I would assume no? The third I looked up on the CA DOJ's roster of banned pistols and it didn't appear. Anybody now the story? The SP89 is pricey but looks like it'd be fun to shoot!

The only banned pistols listed by name are the ones listed on Roberti-Roos Assault Weapons control Act of 1989 and there are no H&K pistols listed.

The Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale is the approved list.

The SP-89 is banned by features under SB-23.

You'd have to do some modifications to make it legal under SB-23.

Yes but the roster of approved handguns relates only to current production. H&K stopped production of the H&K 4 and VP70Z over 20 years ago.

The roster still applies however. The only way to get them is to purchase them PPT from someone in the state who owns them already, or if you could find a model that was over 50 years old and a C&R, which no H&K firearms are as far as I am aware.

So the only way to get them, if you don't already own them, is to have someone in the state who has them in legal configuration sell them to you via a Private Party Transfer, an out of state resident modifys it to be CA legal and moves into the state and then sells it to you, an out of state person modifys it to be single shot and you DROS it single-shot exempt, or someone registered it as an AW, they now modify it to no longer be an AW, and sell it to you via Private Party Transfer.

          No other way.

Tempting...but I'm not sure I could justify spending 5K on a firearm at this point...but I do appreciate the offer.

NeoWeird: how does the AW ban apply to the model 4 or the VP70Z? These are merely vintage pistols...I would assume they could easily be brought in to CA without hassle, assuming they're shipped to a FFL....are you saying that even with these pistols, one would have to sell it to me from within CA in order for me to be able to legally obtain them?
