Need sighting help

Anyone in or near Santa Clarita that can help me sight in my AR15?

I am having trouble doing it from a rest with no equipment. I don't have a bench, and I do not have sandbags. I am new to shooting Ar's so it may even be my accuracy issue, but would like to sight in my irons and optic.

Put your upper on a support (block of wood and a towel). Remove the bolt carrier group and look down the bore. Adjust the sights until they line up with the bore. Done.

So just aim the sights at the exact same spot I am aiming the bore? I don't quit grasp this concept.

What's not to grasp? Look down the bore with it pointed at a target. Adjust the sights until they're also on that target. Done.

You just blew my mind! I've been shooting for 20 years and never heard of this.
