It's not at all difficult to remove the flash suppressor and install the muzzle brake with this kit.

GunDog is 100% correct. Got the SA kit for my Norinco Sporter and installed the CA approved muzzle brake in less than 10min.

No, you need some type of muzzle device on a (standard/NM, 22" barrel) M1A, otherwise you lose the mounting point for the front sight...you need some type of muzzle device which has the dovetail for the front sight. That, or use one of the gas locks that allows the sight to be attached at that point. That is silly with a full length barrel though, because you then give up 6ish inches of sight radius.

OP, just take the flash hider off and sell it with the rifle. The new owner can lock the magazine if he wants to install it or he can sell it and buy a brake.

I had a feeling that was the case. I have still not had a chance to wield an M1A yet

Anyway, I agree with this. Don't take it upon yourself to worry about it. Almost anyone looking for a nice M1A would be more than willing to get a brake for it, and plus they wouldn't have to settle for the SA brake; they could get a LRB or Smith or whatever.

Okay. I'm wrong. It's easy as pie. And those pliers are really high quality and will provide years of service.

Luckily I was able to use a friend's pair of USGI pliers and didn't have to buy the "disposable" pair that comes with the Springfield Inc. kit.
