Did my brother err today when he bought a gang of 7.62x39 for his FAL which is stamped 7.62x51 (.308)?

Got home from the gun show with some new plinking material and when looking at his FAL, we see the stamp and oh shi.....!

sounds like you're a bit of a noob too. Markings are there for a reason. When they're just a lot of numbers, they're really being specific. Colloquial names (Luger/parabellum) are less often as important but can be.
