Spike's lower. Has anyone else had issues with the Magpul MOE grip?

So I assembled my Spike's lower with the CMMG lower parts kit I bought (it was what my LGS had in stock when I got my lower out of jail) and I didn't like the pistol grip it came with. After checking out my buddy's AR build with the MIAD grip I liked the way it felt. I bought the MOE grip instead because it was cheaper than the MIAD and I wasn't going to install any of the optional parts.

I pulled the grip that came with the CMMG kit and went to install the Magpul MOE grip. It took 2 people to force it on and after tightening down the screw to the point it would go no further the MOE would not sit flush with my receiver and kept wobbling. I pulled if back off, removed the loc-tite from the screw and chased the threads with a tap. No cross-thread issues or anything. The tap spun clean all the way through. Tried reinstalling the MOE again with no avail. Ended up putting the CMMG unit back on.

All the rest of the Magpul items I have purchased have been awesome and have been installed with no issues. Should I return the MOE for store credit towards the MIAD, or was I just missing something? Will the MIAD be easier to install because it comes apart and therefore, will allow more clearance on my receiver? Had anyone with a MIAD encountered the same problem I did with the MOE?

The Magpul grip bolt has a ton of locktight on it. Best to scrape most of it off and try again.

Edit: saw you did that.... No clue, Had a hell of a time putting the MAID on my spikes. Just kept screwing & unscrewing till I got it.

Is there a chance you were pinching the safety detent spring between the grip and receiver?
Try installing it without the safety detent spring and see if it sits flush with the receiver. If it does, then most likely the detent spring wasn't getting pushed straight into the hole in the grip and detent hole in the receiver. Good luck. The grips are tight, and have to kind of be wiggled down onto the receiver.
      Let us know the outcome.

My MIAD (on a stag) was super tight but it fits fine.

I put MOE's on two new Spike's lowers. They were snug going on but mounted and secured just fine.

I tried that with and without the grip after chasing the threads and the screw the MOE came with seemed fine. With the grip on I simply cannot torque the grip all the way down to my lower. The grip will not seat flush and wobbles back and forth. I have had no issues with the spring with either grip.

Should I just think "warranty-be-damned" and take a Dremel or some 60 grit to the MOE? Exchange it for a MIAD and try again? Everything else i have purchased from Magpul has worked perfectly.

+1 on scraping some of the loctite.

I know it's not exactly the issue you're dealing with, but on my Colt 6920, I had to sand down the edges on the front strap of the MIAD to get it to fit correctly. It was still snug and still took some force, but before sanding, the receiver was digging into the sides of it.

I was having a time of it getting my MIAD on a spikes lower. I saw all the locktite and being the lazy slug that I am - I just used the screw that came in the LPK without the locktite and it tightened down OK.

                      ^^^ this

Believe it or not, this is the simple and easy solution. It seems the screw Magpul includes seems to be a PITA to install. I used the screw of an A2 pistol grip and presto! Problem solved.

take screw outside locate propane torch
                        put in clamping device
                        turn on torch
                        blast off loctite

                          Agreed ^^
All of mine were a PITA to install. That is until I used a Bic lighter and heated the loctite up and then it was gtg

I've installed an MOE and an MOE+ onto my Spike's Lower. The MOE+ had a lot of locktite, so it did need a good amount of elbow grease to get on, but it sits flush.

Try A2 grip screws from left over LPK and just apply fresh loctite.

                              If that doesn't work....

I don't want to suggest you bought a knockoff however, if the A2 screw does not work then... I would wonder about manufacture and consider power tools as an alternative.

Remember, a fresh drop of blue loctite if you use the A2 screw. Not red.
