Is there a way to dampen the buffer spring noise when firing an AR? Or pretty much that's the way it is?

after a few years and a couple thousand rounds... you dont notice it anymore

What kind of stock are you using? I think that can have an effect on the spring noise - i hear a more pronounced buffer spring noise with my AR pistol without a stock, compared to using a magpul UBR on my regular AR rifle, despite using 2 sets of the same buffer spring kits from vltor.Comment

Yes, get one of these: Silent Captured Spring.
As for me, I don't mind the sproing as it tells me when I need to check the chamber and reload.Comment

Yeah that's what I was figuring, I'm close to 1000 rounds through mine and even though I notice it's not distracting. My friend has put more than a few hundred rounds through his and considers it more obtrusive. Maybe using those fancy active ear protection things he's got amplifies the spring sound after the gunshot dissipates or something.

Both are rifles. On mine it's a RRA stock. My friend uses a Magpul CTR. I fired his a few times and I don't think it was any different from mine. What kind of stock are you using? I'm not sure about his buffer, I use a heavy buffer.-POLICESTATE,

I found it annoying even though it's perfectly normal. Used some wheel bearing grease along the spring and buffer and it doesn't make a sound at all. I also applied some by the bcg and charging handle and it feels super slick now. The only downside is that it may get dirty quicker, which I definitely don't mind.Comment

The grease works. I have used Lithium white grease. Just be careful not to use too much or you can have feeding and locking problems.I found it annoying even though it's perfectly normal.
