rainier Arms Evolution Free Float System - 11.0

Not sure how much this helps, but without researching, I would THINK the first one would be the lightest. The nice thing about it is that it should be light weight, but then you have the option of adding railing on the sides, which adds weight, but you can choose how much railing, etc.

Personally, I am not fond of the look of the second one, but that is my opinion. The second and third one looks heavier though.

There are considerable differences in the outer diameter between them as well as the physical feel of them. Have you gotten your hands on each to see which feels best to you?

I have no experience with the Rainier product but it says it has a small outer diameter similar to the Troy BattleRail.

I just recently got my hands on a couple different Troy BattleRails and I'm not sure if I like the narrow grip or not. Could be that I'm just used to the norm. I definitely like the Alpha much better with the new SquidGrip.

The CASV is actually pretty light weight but it's a bit boxy. If you want something unique and functional then it's a great choice, assuming you like the grip.

The Atlantic Research Marketing Systems S.I.R. System mounts similar to the CASV but is heavier duty and higher priced. However, it may be a good option depending on the use of the rifle you are building.

As far as the narrow grips go, I've been considering APEX as well. I really like the texture and look but again, not sure how I feel about the OD.

Just a couple other options for you to consider.

None of those are monolithic, if that's what you are looking to build. Monolithic platforms are those where the upper and the rail are milled from a single chunk of aluminum. The only two monolithic platforms I am aware of are made by Lewis Machine Tool and Mega Arms, but there could be others.

I think monolithic platforms are very stout, and may offer some advantages in terms of being able to easily change barrels, but I think they come with a weight penalty.

If your priority is light weight you might take a look at the Troy TRX series. They don't have a full quad rail, but most of us don't really need that other than to maximize the tacticool factor.

Colt also makes a monolithic upper. I know you can get them with a complete upper assembly but not sure if they sell the upper receiver only.

Troy is discontinuing the TRX Extreme and replacing it with the Alpha. You're absolutely right about the quad rail. When I bought my first one that's exactly what the man selling it to me said too. I ignored his advice but he was right.

                +1

Look at the VTAC TRX Extreme by Troy. I run the 13" model and love it. The Troy model you listed is a quadrail, so not a fair comparison to a true modular rail.

Here are the Troy VTAC TRX that I have on my AR. It is pretty light weight and I love the look of it. A lot of people have the quad rail, and I knew the railing this comes with would be enough for my needs, but I can always add more on, so its perfect.

                      Another Troy option...
